Training – Rifle Shooting – Terminal Ballistics

100% theoretical training, designed as an essential complement for big game hunters. We will study in depth the ballistic effects of calibers and projectile types, and their effectiveness depending on game and distances encountered in Quebec. The goal is to give you the knowledge needed to choose the right caliber and bullet for ethical and quick harvests.
Examples of questions covered:

  • Which caliber and bullet type for a deer at 50 yards vs. 500 yards?
  • Which bullet/caliber for predator protection?
  • Effect of a large slow caliber vs. a small fast caliber depending on species and distance.
  • Monolithic bullets (100% copper) vs. soft lead, hard lead, bonded, hollow point, or polymer tips: why, when, and how to use them?
    Principles of projectile effectiveness:
A projectile causes death by one or more of the following effects:
  • Hemorrhage (blood loss).
  • Nervous system damage.
  • Destruction of tissues and vital organs.
  • Septicemia or asphyxia.
    Why this training is crucial:
Modern bullets and calibers are complex; poorly chosen, they can lead to missed harvests or prolonged animal suffering. This training will help you understand the mechanisms involved and reduce the risk of losing game.
Objectives — At the end of the training, you will know how to:
  • Compare ballistic effectiveness of calibers by distance and target animal.
  • Choose the right bullet type for species and hunting situation.
  • Explain practical differences between projectiles (monolithic, soft/hard lead, bonded, hollow point, polymer).
  • Understand ballistic coefficient, residual energy, impact velocity, and penetration.
  • Apply ethical criteria to decide if a shot is viable.
  • Reduce risks of non-lethal shots and improve clean kill rates.
Duration: 4 hours. Price: $300 per person
** You may be paired with other participants.

Training – Long-Range Shooting – .22 LR – Basic

Specially designed for sport shooters who want to start precision shooting with a .22 LR rifle. This course combines theory and practical exercises to give you the technical and ethical basics of precision shooting with .22.
Objectives — At the end of the training, you will be able to:

  • Understand that precision shooting relies on consistency, patience, and perseverance.
  • Distinguish rimfire (.22) from centerfire precision shooting (main differences and implications).
  • Choose the right rifle for .22 LR precision shooting.
  • Identify additional equipment needed (bipod, shooting bag, supports, etc.).
  • Master scope adjustment units: milliradians (mils) and minutes of angle (MOA).
  • Know the best ammunition for .22 LR precision shooting.
  • Understand the ballistic coefficient of a projectile and its practical importance.
  • Learn internal and external ballistics specific to .22 rifles.
  • Acquire basics of using a ballistic software/program.
  • Separate fact from fiction regarding barrel break-in.
  • Clean and maintain a precision .22 rifle properly.
  • Apply safety rules and adopt a confident, safe behavior on the range.
Duration: 6 hours. Price: $375 per person

* Access fees for a firearm included in the price.
